Ivana Trump died tragically on July 14 at the age of 73 at her home in New York City. Her family members confirmed her death on social media, including her daughter Ivanka Trump, who shared a series of old photos on Instagram with the caption, “Heartbroken by my mother’s death. Mom was brilliant, charming, passionate and hilariously funny.” She showed strength, tenacity and determination in her every action. She lived life to the fullest – and never missed an opportunity to laugh and dance.”
Ivana’s two sons with Donald Trump Sr., Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump also took to social media to pay tribute to their mother. “Mom, we will miss you incredibly. Thank you for always pushing us hard, never letting us get away with it, and instilling so many incredible values and personality traits,” the former wrote on Instagram, also praising Ivana’s sense of humor. As for Eric, he too shared old family photos on Instagram and wrote, “Our mom was an incredible woman – a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty and a caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled communism and embraced this country. She taught her children courage and tenacity, compassion and determination.”
But it turns out Donald Sr.’s first wife had friends who were quite worried in the run-up to her death, as they have admitted they knew she could get hurt at home.
Ivana Trump’s girlfriend “hated” her stairs
Ivana Trump’s death was caused by blunt force trauma to her torso, New York’s Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed. It was ruled an accident and Ivana was reportedly found dead and alone at the bottom of the stairs in her New York City home – which at least one friend was already sick of. “I was always so upset with those stairs. I hated those stairs. They were so treacherous. We were worried that she would fall,” Ivana’s friend Nikki Haskell told the New York Post after her death. Haskell confirmed that Ivana had an elevator but preferred to take the stairs, sharing that he felt the steps were too steep and dangerous. “Friends used to say to me, ‘Why don’t you stay with Ivana when you’re in New York?’ But you couldn’t pay me to hang out there and go up and down those stairs.”
How Ivana fell hasn’t been officially confirmed, although the owner of a New York restaurant she loved going to, Giuliano Zuliani, spoke to People about her health. He claimed she had trouble walking before her death, saying, “She didn’t seem to be in good shape.”
Zach Erdem, the owner of another restaurant Ivana liked to frequent, claimed she had problems with her hip. “She was going to come two weeks ago, but she was unwell … She said she wasn’t feeling well,” he told the New York Post, claiming the pain made her stay at home.
Ivana Trump had taken care of her health before her death
Ivana Trump had reportedly been called to see the doctor shortly before her death, but refused to make an appointment. “She said, ‘No, I hate going to doctors. I get sicker when I go to doctors,'” Zach Erdem, who has been friends with the star for about 15 years, told the New York Post.
Tragically, Ivana apparently expected to be on vacation on the day that her funeral will now take place. Nikki Haskell explained to Page Six that Ivana had been taking extra care of her health and being careful about where she went in recent years amid the coronavirus pandemic, but had planned her first international vacation in about two years for the summer of 2022. Haskell claimed Ivana was due to fly to St Tropez, France on July 15, saying: “This would be her first trip since the pandemic. She was afraid of contracting the virus.”
The star is believed not to have left her home much in the final years of her life as the pandemic kept her confined to her New York home. “She’s become very withdrawn in recent years,” Haskell told the New York Post. “She had a big townhouse and was really scared of catching the virus, a lot more than anyone else I know. She didn’t want to go anywhere, she didn’t want to travel… She took it very, very seriously. She was afraid of getting sick.”
Ivana Trump was still in contact with Donald Trump
It’s not clear how much time Ivana Trump was able to spend with her family before her death, although she was reportedly still in regular contact with her first husband, Donald Trump, particularly during his time in the White House. “[Ivana] was on the phone [Donald] all the time,” a source claimed to the New York Post, describing Ivana as one of her first husband’s key advisors during his controversial presidency. Zach Erdem even claimed that Ivana allegedly made plans to visit the former president, likely in his Mar-a-Lago Resort in Florida, after their trip to St. Tropez.
Ivana’s funeral is scheduled for July 20, along with her three children with Donald, Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric, who are all expected, according to People. As for whether her first husband will be there to say goodbye, he hasn’t publicly confirmed whether he will attend, although Daily Mail shared candid photos of Donald and Melania Trump arriving in New York City on July 18 during the funeral is reported to be taking place in Manhattan.
