Always a success in children’s entertainment, Jake T. Austin got his start as a voice actor in the “Dora the Explorer” franchise as Dora’s cousin Diego. However, it was Disney Channel that gave fans a chance to meet the boy behind the voice. For four seasons, Austin starred on the hit series Wizards of Waverly Place, portraying Max, the youngest Russian sibling. The show, starring Selena Gomez, also inspired a TV movie.
Austin’s acting garnered him many fans, and according to E! News even brought him to love. The actor made headlines in 2015 when he started dating Danielle Ceasar, a super fan who had tweeted him for five years. It seems the pair have since split, but given Austin’s 2.1million Instagram followers and penchant for posting belly pics, he won’t have any trouble finding another fangirl any time soon.
Aside from maintaining his Instagram followers, Austin has been quite busy professionally even after he left Disney Channel.
Jake T. Austin is still playing
Just a year after the end of Wizards of Waverly Place, Jake T. Austin scored a recurring role on another hit TV series, The Fosters. However, fans were shocked in 2015 when Austin announced it Twitter that he would be leaving his role as Jesus after only two seasons. “I’m honored to have been a part of such a groundbreaking series, but personally I want you to know that my time on the show is over,” he wrote. The star clarified in now-deleted tweets (via Seventeen) that his screen time would be reduced in season three and that he wanted to pursue bigger opportunities.
As noted by Seventeen, the role was taken over by Noah Centineo, and Austin returned primarily to voice work. He played a significant role in The Emoji Movie, voicing Alex, the owner of the phone where all the emoji shenanigans take place.
In March 2021, Austin screamed out many of his old roles when announcing his film. “Diego, Max, Jesus, Jaime/Blue Beetle, Angel, Bruce, Fernando: I’ve played so many different characters and allow me to introduce Lars,” he said tweeted. “My new film, Adverse, is available today.”
The actor has not left Wizards of Waverly Place in the past
Disney Channel has stopped making episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place, but it seems Jake T. Austin isn’t ready to put it behind him. While many young actors are working hard to shed their Disney identities, Austin referenced his in a cute throwback pic.
In April 2021, the star took to Instagram to share a picture with David Henry and Selena Gomez, who played his on-screen siblings Justin Russo and Alex Russo. In the caption, he wrote “#NationalSiblingDay,” and fans loved the sweet tribute to “Wizards of Waverly Place.” One wrote in the comments: “Bring this back man.”
According to an interview he did with 1010 Wins in 2017, it seems Austin might be ready for a reunion himself. “If there was anyone really involved in what we were actually going to do, it would be Selena,” he said. “If I were to send Selena an emoji, it would be the prayer hands emoji. let’s see you again Let’s do it for the fans.” Unfortunately for fans and Austin, there doesn’t seem to be any movement towards an official reunion. However, we were treated to mini-meetings of the old castmates, like when Gomez and the Beast Jennifer Stone used on-screen TikTok to recreate one of their friendship’s iconic songs.
