Todd and Julie Chrisley could face retrial after their guilty verdict

Todd Chrisley has had his share of controversy since the beginning of his reality TV series, Chrisley Knows Best. However, he and his wife Julie Chrisley were convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion.

Under the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the pair were found guilty by a jury in June of lying to secure $30 million in loans from community banks between 2007 and 2012. Todd then reportedly filed for bankruptcy in 2012, freeing the family from $20 million in debt. Prosecutor Annalize Peters also accused Todd and Julie of hiding millions in revenue from their US reality show. With the guilty verdict, the couple faces up to 30 years in prison, the sentencing is scheduled for October 6.

On the family’s Chrisley Confessions podcast, Todd revealed that the Chrisley family was heartbroken by the sentencing but still hoped things would work out in their favor. “We still hold fast to our faith and trust that God will do what He does because God is a miracle worker,” he told the audience. While they remain positive, the couple doesn’t accept that belief either.

Todd and Julie Chrisley have filed for a new trial and possible acquittal

Per Us Weekly, Todd and Julie Chrisley have filed a request for a retrial and a possible acquittal. In court documents, the couple placed blame on IRS tax officer Betty Carter for allegedly lying about the couple owing taxes. The motion also alleges that evidence admitted in court violates the Fourth Amendment and should be excluded from the trial. Lawyers for the two were also seeking a possible acquittal altogether, claiming there was no evidence Julie was involved “in any of the specifically alleged bank frauds.” Nothing is known about these requests.

Nonetheless, Todd and Julie seem to be doing as well as they can for now. They continue to record new episodes of their podcast. According to The Wrap, “Chrisley Knows Best” will continue to air in the US and was even taped for an additional season before the trial, although production is currently not underway. Amidst this current scandal, time will only tell what lies ahead for Todd and Julie and their family.
