The truth about Ana Navarro and Meghan McCain’s relationship

On Aug. 4, ABC’s The View announced that Ana Navarro, always a guest host, never a co-host, was finally tapped as a permanent fixture on the famed talk show. “‘The View’ is an institution and an unparalleled platform for women from all backgrounds to share their opinions and insights,” Navarro later said in an official statement, per Variety. “It’s been a long promotion, but we’re finally making it official. I love being on the show and I love living in Miami. I’m glad I’ll be able to do both. Thank you to ABC News, The View family and our loyal viewers for their continued support.”

But while many celebrated Navarro’s new role on the show, some expected a reaction from controversial former co-host Meghan McCain, given that the two were known to have clashed in the past. But what is the truth behind the two political pundits’ relationship? Let’s take a little time enjoy the view break it down for you

Meghan McCain stormed off the set after a heated debate with Ana Navarro

Dueling Republicans?

While many assumed Meghan McCain and Ana Navarro would hit it off since they’re both members of the Republican Party, it didn’t quite work out that way. Case in point: the September 20, 2019 episode, when all the back-and-forth finally came to a head. During a heated discussion about a whistleblower who claimed Donald Trump made an improper promise to a foreign leader, Navarro took McCain to task for yelling at her. “I’m two feet away, I don’t need you to yell at me like that,” Navarro snapped back, before the day’s host and “The View” OG Joy Behar abruptly switched to a commercial. McCain then walked off the set dramatically, but not before calling Navarro “so rude.” She then magically reappeared after the break. And scene!

However, McCain later appeared to dismiss the on-air spat. “I think everyone in America has a hard time expressing their point of view,” she explained during a Watch What Happens Live appearance. “But in terms of host vibes, I’m a lot more comfortable with the top five hosts that I work with every day than last year because now it’s my third year.” As for the walk-out debacle , McCain claimed she was just following protocol … and getting a little glam, too. “We’re told by the producers to leave the table if it’s too hot, and I get touch-ups with my makeup backstage, so that’s what I did.”

Meghan McCain has reportedly been caught unawares by Ana Navarro’s new promotion

Maybe Meghan McCain wasn’t ready to let the past rest after all.

“She was outraged. Ana had embarrassed her and the truth is Meghan can dish it out but she sure can’t take it,” a source later revealed to the Daily Mail. But that’s not all. According to the source, the blood between McCain and Ana Navarro got so bad that McCain threatened to leave The View if Navarro became a regular. “So that’s how Ana ended up only doing one day a week,” the source claimed.

But now, following Navarro’s new co-hosting move, it’s reported that McCain was “caught by surprise” with the move. “No one has reached out to Meghan about today’s big announcement,” a source told OK! “She found out at the same moment as everyone else. There was a brief discussion about telling her, but it was ultimately decided that Meghan cannot be trusted. She would have leaked the information while promoting herself.” Hey, at least they waited until their old spot on The View had long gone gold, we guess?
