The tragic story of Ivana Trump’s fourth and final marriage

Interest in her love life and four marriages peaked after the death in July 2022 of Ivana Trump, the ex-wife of the one-time real estate magnate and mother of Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.

As many already know, Ivana and Donald’s marriage lasted 15 years, culminating in a messy divorce around 1992. They would both marry and divorce several times. For the former President, he later married and divorced Marla Maples (mother to daughter Tiffany Trump) and later tied the knot with former First Lady Melania Trump, who is mother to his youngest Barron Trump.

Ivana, for her part, was married (and divorced) before marrying Donald. After she and Donald split, Ivana remarried, once from 1995 to 1997 and then for a fourth time, in 2008, to Rossano Rubicondi, an Italian actor and media personality who was 23 years her junior. Tragically, Rubicondi died at the age of 49.

Ivana Trump’s fourth husband, Rossano Rubicondi, reportedly died after a year-long illness

On paper, Ivana Trump and Rossano Rubicondi’s marriage (pictured above in 2005) was brief — all told, they exchanged vows in 2008 and divorced a year later, according to the Daily Mail. Still, their relationship — which has veered from romantic to platonic and back again over the years — stretched a much longer arc than a marriage certificate would suggest.

As the tabloid noted, the couple dated for six years before marrying in Palm Beach, Fla., at none other than her ex-husband Donald Trump’s current homestead, the private resort and golf club Mar-a-Lago. Even after Ivana and Rubicondi called it quits, they stayed in each other’s lives — even going so far as to appear in the 2018 Italian version of the Dancing With the Stars franchise. In fact, they ended up getting back together but split up again in 2019, per Page Six. Despite this, it’s clear they’ve remained friends as they were only spotted together in July 2021, according to the Daily Mail.

As for the cause of death, Rubicondi’s father, Claudio, opened up about it in a November 2021 interview with Italian show “Pomeriggio Cinque” (via People). He explained that although his son was diagnosed with liver cancer, he ultimately died from an accidental fall in the bathtub after a vein ruptured in his lung.

Ivana Trump is dealing with the death of her last husband

Their marriage may not have been the longest of their four, but Ivana Trump has struggled to cope with the death of her last husband, Rossano Rubicondi. Unfortunately, he turned out to be Ivana’s last husband as well, as the socialite died within a year of the dashing Italian’s death.

Ivana was found dead at the foot of the stairs of her home on East 46th Street in Manhattan on July 14. A statement from the New York coroner ruled that the 73-year-old’s death was caused by “blunt impact injuries to the upper body” following an accidental fall, Newsweek reports. Her colleague Nikki Haskell gave an insight into the last year of her good friend’s life. She explained that while Ivana was looking forward to an upcoming holiday to Saint Tropez, she had become “really very reclusive” of late due to fears of catching COVID and mourning the death of Rubicondi.

“She wasn’t going anywhere or doing anything,” Haskell admitted during an interview with Fox 5 affiliate morning show Good Day New York the day after Ivana’s death. “She was overwhelmed with a lot of different things,” Haskell continued. “Of course her ex-husband passed away earlier this year which was pretty devastating for her.

Ivana Trump was devastated by the loss of Rossano Rubicondi

Ivana Trump and Rossano Rubicondi had had an untraditional marriage and had been separated for a long time due to geographical differences. But the stress of a long-distance relationship soon became too much for her. “Rossano wants to live in Miami and work in Milan,” Ivana explained after their first breakup, just months into their marriage (via Yahoo!). “But I’m a New Yorker and my family, friends and businesses are here. As the beautiful song says: ‘Que será, será!’”

However, they were soon back together, and Ivana apparently returned to a sentiment she shared in 2009. “It’s not a 24-hour marriage, but we’re both enjoying it!” Ivana told People at the time. However, the same problems eventually recurred and spelled the end of the marriage. “The relationship just took its course,” Ivana told Page Six in June 2019. “Rossano spends a lot of time in Italy, and I spend a lot of time in New York, Miami and St. Tropez, and he has to work.” She said the split was “amicable” and they remained close friends.

When Rubicondi died in October 2021, Ivana told People that she was “devastated.” The Daily Mail published photos of a “grieving” Ivana, looking “frail” as she was helped out of a car to attend her late husband’s memorial service in November 2021. The newspaper reported that the couple was last seen out for a walk together. arm in arm” in Manhattan in July 2021, just three months before his death.
