Ricky Martin’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, dropped the incest and domestic violence charges after sparking some serious controversy, according to USA Today. Sanchez claimed that he and his uncle were in a romantic relationship for seven months before apparently deciding to end things with Martin, who wasn’t coping well with the breakup. However, Martin adamantly denied the claims and his legal team revealed that Sanchez was dealing with some mental health issues that were clearly out of control.
Martin’s attorney, Marty Singer, told the New York Post, “Unfortunately, the person who made this allegation is struggling with deep mental health issues or a romantic relationship with his nephew.”
The “Livin’ la Vida Loca” singer was scheduled to testify against his nephew in court on July 21, when Sanchez decided to drop the charges and voluntarily withdrew his allegations, according to TMZ. The case was dismissed and closed as requested by Sanchez. Now Martin and his husband Jwan Yosef are finally breaking their silence on the disturbing allegations.
Jwan Yosef supports his husband Ricky Martin
Jwan Yosef and Ricky Martin share four children and have been married since 2018, E! News, so it came as a shock to fans to hear that the singer had allegedly stepped on his partner — specifically with one of his nephews. When Martin’s nephew Dennis Yadiel Sanchez moved to have the case dismissed and the allegations withdrawn, Yosef broke his silence on the troubling allegations made against his husband. On his official Instagram account, he posted a selfie with Martin with the caption “Truth wins” with a red heart emoji.
In a video message, Martin spoke about the allegations after the charges were dropped and genuinely spoke about his feelings on the matter. He revealed that he has not publicly denied the allegations himself because he was following the proceedings and waiting to speak to the judge in court. Martin said, according to Page Six: “Thank god those claims have been proven false but I’ll tell you the truth, it was so painful… for me, for my family, for my friends. I don’t wish that on anyone.”
Martin released a statement from his lawyers on Instagram after his nephew dropped the charges against him. It seems things are getting back to normal for the singer as he takes to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl on July 22 for a special performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
