Everyone knows that divorce is rarely easy (we’ve all seen “Marriage Story,” right?), but it’s not often we see things get as messy as Michelle Branch’s divorce saga just took another turn. Hours after she accused her soon-to-be ex-husband Patrick Carney in a series of since-deleted tweets, the singer confirmed that she and Carney were splitting after three years of marriage.
In a statement to TMZ, Branch said: “To say I’m completely devastated doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about myself and about my family. The rug was pulled out from under me and now I have to figure out how to proceed.” But that was only the beginning of the drama.
Following the announcement of the split, TMZ then reported that Branch was arrested in Nashville for “domestic assault” after she admitted slapping her (allegedly) cheating husband “once or twice” in the face. According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Carney had no visible injuries and Branch was taken into custody on $1,000 bail.
The assault charges against Michelle Branch were dropped
While Michelle Branch is clearly not having the time of her life right now, we can report that she got some good news. The domestic assault charges brought against her by Patrick Carney have been officially dropped at the request of the state, according to Page Six. The charges were dropped because both parties reached an agreement. It’s the little things, you know?
Meanwhile, it looks like the singer is already busy moving on with her life. When reports emerged that the charges had been dropped, Branch took up the matter Twitter teasing new music. “Tracklist coming HOT,” she tweeted, with links to pre-order her upcoming album The Trouble With Fever. We can also pretty much confirm that the internet is definitely Team Branch. “Michelle Branch teases new cheeky music just days after filing for divorce from husband who cheated on her while she was home with their baby. I already know that I will love this era.” tweeted a fan. “I hope Michelle Branch is having a good day today,” said another well-wisher tweeted. “Michelle Branch is ready to make her own lemonade and I’m HERE FOR IT,” another person wrote.
As Queen Bey said, “The best revenge is your newspaper.”
