Claire Danes has been one of the most recognizable faces in the industry since her days on television in the mid ’90s.
After getting her big break as a teenage protagonist on ABC’s My So-Called Life – for which she received a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy nomination – Danes enjoyed a resurgence of fame as the female lead on Showtime’s Homeland. . 2011 to 2020. For her role as CIA case worker Carrie Mathison on the hit series, Danes received critical acclaim and additional Emmys and Golden Globes from a total of eight nominations.
However, fans have long been interested in the personal life of the Danes. Although she has been married to English actor Hugh Dancy since 2009 – with whom she shares two children – she has still been embroiled in a series of cheating scandals with other big stars since the early 2000s.
Claire Danes has been under public scrutiny since the early 2000s
The first cheating scandal involving Claire Danes came in 2003 amid the high-profile split of Billy Crudup and fellow actress Mary-Louise Parker, per Entertainment Weekly, who was seven months pregnant with his child at the time. According to The Age, Danes was dating singer Ben Lee at the time, but broke up with him to pursue a relationship with Crudup.
“I was just in love with him,” Danes told Crudup Vanity Fair’s Howard Stern in 2015. “And [I] had to investigate, and I was 24 … I didn’t know exactly what those consequences would be.” She added that public scrutiny of the whole situation was a “scary thing.” That was really tough.”
She also told Blackbook in 2009 that she had decided to fall in love with the actor. “It’s awkward being cast in such an unflattering role,” she explained, “but I just had to stand my ground.” The two split three years later, although they remained friends, according to ET.
There are rumors that Claire Danes may have left Billy Crudup for her husband
Of course, given Claire Danes’ history of cheating scandals, rumors began when she and boyfriend Billy Crudup finally split in 2006, just before her relationship with current husband Hugh Dancy began. In January 2007, a source close to the actors told the New York Daily News that Danes and Dancy had been dating for a month before her split from Crudup. Apparently, the source reported that the two — who were filming Lajos Koltai’s drama film Evening together — shared a bed “with the door open two feet and everyone listening.”
The Washington Examiner reported shortly thereafter that Danes and Crudup’s relationship “had ended with a scandalous bang, just as it began,” while also calling them one of Hollywood’s most hated couples.
Today, those rumors are unfounded, and given that Crudup and Danes are still friends, there’s a good chance they’re not true. Whatever the Danes’ history of cheating scandals, she and Dancy married in a private ceremony in France less than three years later, and are still going strong with two sons to this day (per People). “There’s a huge benefit in being in a partnership with someone you trust and admire and want to make out with,” she jokingly said of her 2015 marriage to Dancy, per ET. “Marriage is wonderful. It’s challenging and it’s getting deeper and deeper.”
