Honey Boo Boo slams critics of their controversial relationship

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is being slammed for her four-year age difference with boyfriend Dralin Carswell, and she’s finally speaking out. The former TLC star has been dating Carswell for over a year but kept their relationship under wraps for the first six months, according to the US Sun. The pair became Instagram official in September 2021 after Thompson posted a since-deleted photo of them with a “Bae” sticker over the picture (per Page Six). Some of Thompson’s fans weren’t as happy as others about their first public relationship, but despite the criticism they’ve faced so far, the age of consent in Georgia is 16, making their relationship legal.

In May, Mama June spoke about her daughter’s boyfriend in an interview with TooFab, revealing: “She gets a lot of hate for being in an interracial relationship [and] he’s older.” The mother-of-four added, “At the end of the day, Alana isn’t the 6, 7-year-old kid you fell in love with 11 years ago. The US Sun confirmed that Thompson’s sisters also respect and accept her relationship with Carswell.

Fans may recall that Mama June lost custody of Honey Boo Boo in June after she was arrested for drug possession, resulting in Thompson’s sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon being awarded full custody of the star. Although it’s been a dramatic year for Thompson and her family, Honey Boo Boo recently broke her silence about their contentious relationship.

Honey Boo Boo don’t bother the haters

In spite of Fans expressing concern and disapproval Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson doesn’t seem to mind her romance with Dralin Carswell.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she opened up about how the criticism on social media hasn’t affected her life since she went public with her relationship. She revealed that they mostly get hate for being an interracial couple with an age difference. Thompson said, “I don’t care because at the end of the day my sister agrees, his mom agrees and we’re happy, so what fans have to say or what haters have to say, I don’t really care.” Her sister and current guardian Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon also defended the relationship during the interview, saying, “She’s not getting married, she’s not having a kid, she’s doing very well at school.”

Thompson rarely posts photos of just her and Carswell on social media, but when she does, comments are disabled on Instagram. Honey Boo Boo and her sisters are currently on a small summer tour of the United States, with dates announced sporadically.
