After her first engagement Everyone Heading back to the early 2000s for their real-time reunion, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez finally made it down the aisle. The couple is officially married, reports Page Six, with court documents obtained by the outlet confirming a marriage license filed Saturday, July 16, in Clark County, Nevada, with the couple’s full legal names. Per People, the couple’s wedding consisted of a small ceremony attended by only the closest of their loved ones.
To recap, Affleck and Lopez were one of the many “It” couples of the early years, and when the “Justice League” actor popped the big question in 2002, it seemed like they were sure they were meant to be . However, their wedding in September 2003 never took place and broke the hearts of “Bennifer” fans everywhere. The postponement became a full-fledged breakup when Affleck and Lopez revealed their split was fueled by “the excessive media attention” their relationship was receiving at the time.
As many of us know, both parties then moved on with other partners, seemingly creating lives outside of each other. Per Hollywood Life, Lopez tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony in June 2004, while Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005. Speaking of Jennifer Garner, fans are rushing to her side amid the news of Affleck and Lopez’s wedding.
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck had a complicated marriage
After tying the knot in 2005, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck had a complicated marriage. Garner and Affleck welcomed three children along the way and eventually split, with Affleck telling Howard Stern on his radio show that they did everything they could to make it work because of their children. “The truth was, we took our time, we made a decision, we grew apart,” Affleck said. “We had a marriage that didn’t work out. Happens. It’s someone I love and respect, but should no longer be married to.”
The ‘Good Will Hunting’ actor went on to reveal that his substance abuse continued to escalate as their marriage progressed. Affleck told the New York Times that he’d always enjoyed alcohol at a relatively controlled level, and confessed that as his association with Garner continued to unravel, he drank more, which of course led to more martial troubles. The couple eventually announced their intention to divorce in 2015, with the actor sharing that he needed to get sober for his family. All along, Garner was in his corner, supporting his efforts.
“I knew she was a good mother. I hope she knew I was a good father. It was me. I needed to sober up – I knew that too – and I acknowledged that. I said, ‘You’re right ‘need to stop drinking,'” Affleck shared with Howard Stern. In fact, three years after Garner and Affleck announced their divorce, the “13 Going On 30” star was spotted driving her ex to rehab, per Entertainment Tonight.
Fans gather behind Jennifer Garner
Following the news that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have made things official after their on-and-off relationship, fans are apparently concerned for the actor’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. Supporters have stressed that the “Alias” star has seemingly done whatever it takes to support her ex-husband through his addiction, rallying behind her on Twitter. A fan continued to write Twitter, “I can’t help but feel sorry for Jennifer Garner. I hope Ben really gets his addiction under control. He’s a good actor.” A second fan divided shared similar feelings, noting that Garner “really did her best and even tried her best [him] to get his life under control even after the divorce.”
However, some other social media users believe Garner has no reason to be sad as she no longer has to emotionally support Affleck. “Congratulations to Jennifer Garner; she’s no longer responsible for rescuing Ben out of trouble and crashing him in her guest house!” one fan tweetedwhile another believes the “Elektra” actor is “glad he’s someone else’s problem now.”
At the time of publication, Garner has not broken her silence on her ex-husband’s marriage news, so time will tell if she publicly comments on the matter. From the looks of it, the ex-couple are still co-parents to their three children, and Garner has opened up about their improved relationship since their split. Hopefully everyone involved is happy, healthy and looking out for one another’s well-being amid an incredibly public divorce between Garner and Affleck, and now the union between the “Bat Man” star and the dynamic Lopez.
