Actress Irene Bedard is known for her roles in films such as ‘Into the West’ and ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ IMBd. However, she is best known for her voice acting, having voiced the Disney character Pocahontas in the 1995 film of the same name.
“At the time, I particularly felt that there had never been anything that could be so directly related to a generation of children that could introduce them to Indigenous culture,” Bedard told Geek Anything in 2021 of the impact of the Disney film. She explained how Aboriginal people’s “connectedness” and understanding of how people view each other contribute to the legacy.
But the personal life of the actor was not easy. According to a Change.org petition, Bedard is a suspected victim of domestic violence. The actor’s niece claimed that she was abused by her husband for 17 years, which led to a decline in her health and career. It was also mentioned that she stayed in the relationship with her now ex-husband for the sake of her son. And now the actor’s woes seem unresolved.
Irene Bedard was arrested for disorderly conduct
Page Six reported that “Pocahontas” actress Irene Bedard was arrested twice in three days in December 2020. The first time, police received a domestic violence call from the actor’s ex-husband’s home and found Bedard holding a belt. Police reports mentioned she was drunk and the ex-husband claimed the actor kicked her son. Bedard’s son told police the actor was “a nice person when she’s not drinking.” Three days later, Bedard was drunk again and arrested for disorderly conduct after allegedly molesting a hotel receptionist.
On August 19, the “Pocahontas” star was arrested again for disorderly conduct. According to the TMZ police report, Bedard was found in a parking lot. Her behavior was reportedly cursory. She would stay calm for a while, talk to the police and listen to them, but then she would scream and throw a fit. Finally, the police officers handcuffed her.
This arrest came a few days before it was announced that the actor was working on a new project. According to Avatar News, Bedard has been cast as Yagoda in Netflix’s live-action reboot of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Season 1 has already filmed.
