Ever since Derek and Julianne Hough became the iconic dancing sibling duo they are, Dancing with the Stars has enjoyed creating friendly competition for celebrity families. Kim Kardashian was a contestant in Season 7, and six seasons later, Rob Kardashian danced his way to the show’s second slot. Season 21 brought a competition between spouses as Alexa and Carlos PenaVega competed against each other.
“But it’s so good because he’s literally rehearsing right next door,” the Spy Kids actor told Entertainment Tonight about dancing against each other. “So he comes up to me and just gives me a kiss. It’s just so encouraging. He’s my teammate and my life partner, so I like that encouragement. I need her.”
Last season, the ballroom dancing competition show decided to bring a real couple together. Despite fans mentioning that Sharna Burgess and Brian Austin Green’s torrid connection made them a little uncomfortable at times, the professional dancer took to Instagram to clapping back at the comments. Whether they compete or compete with each other, the show clearly has a history of inviting family members and important others into the ballroom, and it seems they continue this friendly competition between family members.
The D’Amelios go into the ballroom
Charli D’Amelio has made her mark in the social media influencer industry as she is one of the most followed users on TikTok after a video of her performing the popular “Renegade” dance went viral. A trained dancer, Charli has shown an interest in her mother, Heidi D’Amelio, who took part in “Dancing With The Stars,” and mentioned to Entertainment Tonight that Heidi was also a dancer when she was younger. Her father Marc suggested they do the show together, to which Charli agreed, saying, “I think we could go on together, that would be so sweet.”
It looks like that dream is about to come true for the mother-daughter duo, as Charli and Heidi are reportedly taking part in season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars,” according to TMZ. Mother and daughter will be separate contestants and will compete against each other.
Charli has some experience of ballroom dancing, having danced with Derek Hough — a six-time winner of “Dancing with the Stars” and now a judge for the show — for the ABC special “Step Into… The Movies With Derek and Julianne Whoops.” The professional dancer even told Hollywood Life she would be a great addition to the show in July 2021. From her dancing background to her popularity, we’re sure Charli and her mom will go far in the competition.
